|
|
Ok, randomness-I was randomly reading the back of one of my Aladdin cups and it stated that Abu is Aladdin's pet. Looking at a few more things I own (book adaptations of the movie, back of toy boxes, etc) some said he was a pet and others said he was his friend.
I always looked at Abu as Aladdin's friend since I used to think it was hard to be poor and have a pet when I was little (I didn't take into account that Abu can steal stuff on his own ), and then Aladdin said himself in the series that Abu was his friend *cough*Although he treats him like a pet at times *cough*.
Soooo...I was just wondering what do you call Abu? A pet? or a friend? |

He also said that in the first movie.

I'd say friend. He talks to Abu like a normal person, and he rescued him as if he was an abused child. he also acknowledges well that Abu has feelings of hurt, happiness, jealousy, etx. and doesn't ignore them (aside from a handful of times when Abu is frantic (like with Carpet in the Cave of Wonders), but that's probably because he knows he'll get over it.

I notice that too. One time is when he pretended to translate Abu in the first movie. (He said, "That's terrible... He wishes there was something he could do to help.") _________________

Friend, though I'm sure I'm guilty of calling him a "pet" before. _________________

Friend.
I can't imagine Iago, Abu, or Xerxes as pets. Rajah... definetly a pet. *Shrugs* _________________

I think that has to do with the ability to speak. _________________

Friend; although occasionally he will treat him as a pet when he's not thinking and Abu will get offended. And I'm sure if I thought about it I could think of times when he's treated Genie as a posession rather than a friend. Because Aladdin is not perfect. |

You mean him always barking orders at Genie like he's still a servant?
"Genie, open the doors", "Uh, Genie? Some water?", "Just ring the gong Genie", "Genie, get us out of here", "We need some transportation Genie", etc., etc.
It's like man, are you SURE he is free?
And he sometimes does the "Jasmine is mine" possessive thing, but he doesn't get far with that one because Jasmine won't put up with his crap |

I agree, he's rather a friend than a pet, just like Iago. _________________

When it comes to bossing Genie around, I think it might stem from the fact that Aladdin just sort of figures that Genie's the only one capable of pulling off various things, so his practicality takes precedence over his politeness.
As for Abu... I'd say he's a bit of both. _________________

I've never noticed Aladdin doing that Jasmine is mine thing. And it never seemed to me that Aladdin was giving Genie orders. It's true that they don't sound like questions, but... _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. He also puts Abu aside a bit as a pet when he gets so darned popular.
He orders Dan the Genie around. Robin's too busy making jokes to take orders. _________________ You can never have too much Baklava.

That's true. With Robin's Genie there is just no time for "Genie,..." he's already joking around. _________________ "I too am a member of your species, Captain, or I was. Perhaps I am not anymore. Yeah, well by the time Aladdin and Genie got really close and all the dangers in the desert decided to attack Aladdin/Agrabah/etc., Dan just so happened to be playing him and having to take orders |
