Just say time travel was real. And just say the past was just like it was in Aladdin's time. Would you like to live in the same time and place as Aladdin and the gang? Or do you like it where you are? _________________ "Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.

Heck no, sir!
Those guys were much too much too much too happy to persecute the "infidels" - which was what I'd be. And nevermind the lack of proper hygiene and nutrition. No, methinks I'm much better off enjoying Aladdin's world from a distance.
...Or am I being too historical?
It'd make for an interesting vacation... in the winter. Personally, I think it's hot and dry enough where I live. (And thank goodness, all the sand out here had the intelligence to solidify itself into sandstone long ago, so it can't blow around anymore.) _________________

I've been mesmerized and enchanted by that whole culture and time period. Sure Hollywood glamourizes some of it, but it still fascinates me. |

Yeah, the history of violence in the Middle East would turn people off, but given the violence in the world right now, Aladdin's world seems like a very tempting escape. _________________

Would go back if only I lived in the palace or lived a life as a high elite. If I lived in the streeets, I have to worry about cleanliness, hygiene, diseases and the treatment of women in society. |

Women were objectionalized back then, and it was hard. I'm way to independent and a smart ass to live back then. I would be hung within the first week... or stoned, or whatever they did to people back then. |
What she said!
Hung, stoned, beheaded... all apply to that era.
Although, women being treated as objects wasn't exactly exclusive to the Arabian culture. It happened in many, many times and places indeed. _________________

I am fascinated with Arabian culture but I'm scared to go there as a woman. Somehow, I tried to research it to look on how they lived their life. You know during the Romans, Egyptians time? Somehow I couldn't find anything. The way they dress, entertainment, style of fighting, etc.. |

NO!!!!
a) how women were treated back then
b) my leader would spend more time with his toys then listen to me speak about my family's issues.... Okay let my HUSBAND speak about my family's issues, since women weren't allowed out of the house.
c) no electricity, no toothpaste, etc.
d) I'd probably end up being just another Jasmine look-alike.

Let me put it this way: if I had to go back to that time period, I would probably rather be there than any other part of the world, what with them being (relatively) tolerant and having more advanced medicine, etc. And Agrabah is much more liberal even than the real thing. But I would rather live here and now and have my computer and hospitals and the right to (not) worship as I please. |

Bah! Baklava ain't exclusively Arabian. It's listed in one of my family's recipe books as Greek. I'm still looking for a recipe that doesn't call for phyllo sheets, though... I mean, buying pre-made stuff is for sissies.
Personally, I wanna make hamastasch someday. My mum thinks the recipe looks positively frightful, but I think it sounds interesting.
Edit - found a recipe for phyllo dough. My WORD, it's absurdly simple! It's simpler than the bread recipes I make up! _________________
