They should totally ban pop groups from doing that to these songs. |
Indeed. That's even worse than the pop remix of 'A Pirate's Life for Me' (where they replaced all the 'nasty' words with more socially acceptable versions. Pirates didn't 'stand up', man, they 'drank up'! And the more they drank the less they stood! So what is up with that song anyway?)
I was rather fond of TLM as a little kid, but my mom poisoned me against it by complaining how Ariel was a spoiled brat who disobeyed her dad but got what she wanted anyway. Watching it years later, I now view it more as - though not discounting the disobedience - her dad finally realizing that Ariel was right, so there was no reason for her not to do what she wanted.
(Smoke pot -- bad. Move topside and marry a human -- acceptable.)
It struck me that Triton was an awfully hoity-toity old fuddyduddy who just couldn't see past the end of his trident, much less listen to his daughter. I mean, if he was THAT concerned, why didn't he take her up there once and for all and explain why humans were bad? That's the problem with kids -- they want to know the consequences before they accept that it shouldn't be done.
But anyway...
Eric's 'dazed' face when Ursula had him hypnotized (during the almost-wedding) was great. Not only did it remind me of Guybrush Threepwood (a fairly easy thing to do, just not with Eric) but it was darned funny on him.
Flotsam and Jetsam creeped me out. They were like a two-headed fake-watch salesman. You could feel the trenchcoat oozing from their essences.
Man, I'd forgotten that Sebastian had about four names. I'll always think of him as Horatio now.
"Poor Unfortunate Souls" was a Darned. Awesome. Number. Hades should've gotten something like that. Though I can't complain; he had a good bite of the gig. And "Kiss the Girl" was cute, too. Now that I think about it, I used to sing that song a lot when I was little.
APK, I really agree about the singer. And the timing, except in the first part when Triton seems to be lip-synching. *jibblyjibbly* _________________ *

They did WHAT? That's just wrong on SO many levels.

Yeah, he was totally drooling from one corner of his mouth... sometimes both!

Oh, geeze... the imagery!

Ah, it's okay... he was just having a raisin moment.
As for me... I don't have any favorite moments, because... how can I pick favorites?
The whole scene with Louis singing was great, though. Whee! Crazy Rene! _________________

Not only that, but a pop rock version of Poor Unfortunate Souls by the Jonas Brothers... which isn't that bad if you ignore the whole point of the song in the movie. Then there's Part of Your World sung by Jessica Simpson (ICKICKYUCKSTABDIE!!!!!), and Under the Sea sung by Raven-Symone... which led me to believe that that girl cannot sing with a fake accent. Or can't sing period. Oy. _________________ ~.oO Destiny is SO Overrated Oo.~

The only extras my DVD player let me watch was the bad rendition of Kiss the Girl.
But that's okay. It's not so bad. I plan to watch my DVD at a friend's house. Just not anytime soon because someone else was planning to get her the DVD for her birthday and I don't want to spoil it for her, so I didn't tell her I had a copy. |
Oh, so you didn't see the second disc yet.
I skipped right over that "Kiss the Girl" song and went straight to the sneak-peak of TLM3. I'm conflicted between my usual dislike of Disney sequels (though this one looks more like a prequel, which is another thing- DISNEY SHOULD STOP NAMING THE PREQUELS AND MID-QUELS 2 AND 3 WHEN THEY ARE NOT ACTUALLY SEQUELS!) and that Sebastian was singing one of my favorite songs. _________________

They're making a Little Mermaid prequel? Ooooooh, so that's what my seven-year-old cousin must've been talking about. _________________

Yeah, the Jonas Brothers one isn't bad if you just completely forget the context of it , but dear God those other ones...OMG. Raven should just shut up period. WHY did she try to have an "accent" when singing with that song. YOU SOUND DUMB. |

Oy, you're right! She sounds quite freakish. If they wanted a Sebastian sound-alike, they should have hired an impressionist (say, me), not a professional singer. Pity, too, 'cause Raven's not bad normally. _________________ *

Yeah, she sounds perfectly peachy if she's not attempting to go poppy with her voice. _________________

I haven't gotten my copy of LM yet, but even if I did, I wouldn't be able to see it until the end of the month, since I had it shipped to my dad's.
I swear, I almost screamed when I looked at the track listing for that special edition CD, and saw all the remakes, but especially that Jessica Simpson redid Part of Your World.
I heard a remake of Part of Your World on a myspace music profile, and they totally slaughtered it. That song wasn't meant to have a fast tempo. That destroys the whole mood of the song.

Jessica Simpson should not sing Disney songs. There should be a rule against it. |

I think she did okay with a whole new world. Even though I really don't like how she sings she did okay in the aladdin dvd. When I compare the aladdin dvd to the TLM. On the aladdin one they put so much more effort into it. |

I do give Jessica Simpson that much credit, yes. She did do ok with her part, even if you don't like how she sings. Not OMG FABULOUS, but if she wasn't trying to make the song sound....sexy? It would have been better. I just keep reminding myself the remake WAS supposed to be by the Disney channel circle of Stars and all is well again |

Do you mean that stupid breathy effect she does to her voice now? Jessica Simpson is a great singer. Or at least she used to be with her older songs and her old style. But now you can hardly hear what she sings. She just sounds like she's not breathing properly. |
