I found this at another site. People were arguing about sexism and racism in disney movies. since this is a recent topic of ours, I thought I'd show it to you. Some member named Calibo says
Quote: |
Couple of side notes:
-Did I mention Pocohontas there? Well she would have been about 8 when she met John Smith in the real story. -.-
-Aladin doesn't have an Indian accent even though he's Indian. Nope, he's American. Even a really obviusly fake Asian accent would be a breakthrough for Disney.
-Hourglass figures. Just look at Jasmine from Aladin. Look at her for about 30 seconds. Looka t her shape. It's not physically possible. Not only that but the cartoons for KIDS, damnit, are making them think that princesses are big-busted and tiny-waisted/slippered.
-Ugly sisters yadadada, yes I know it's in the original tale but Disney has major censoring/editing powers over innocent stories, as has been aforementionedly proved(o.o)
-Ummm... Not remaining true to the original tales XP
-Oh yeah! Snow White wears the clothes that were traditional for prostitutes at that time. No joke. ¬.¬
More later... I'm a Disney-hating feminist on the move! |
How effing ignorant can you get?? I would list all the things wrong with her statements, but I'm sure you've already spotted them all out. This topic has been annoying me a great deal. I'm inspired to write a really long essay filled with rebuttals! I'll show it to you guys if I ever finish.

They can't possibly be talking about our movie. We're in the AladDin fandom; they are talking about Aladin so we are good
-Did I mention Pocohontas there? Well she would have been about 8 when she met John Smith in the real story. -.-
...ok, so what? Do you want a cookie for that statement? At this point, I am sure a lot of us are aware the Disney version is not the original story thanks to History classes, common knowledge and the fact I know parents who still won't let their child watch it because of its inaccuracies....just as we know ALL of them are not the original story. No duh.
Aladin doesn't have an Indian accent even though he's Indian. Nope, he's American. Even a really obviusly fake Asian accent would be a breakthrough for Disney.
...you've gotta be shittin' me.
1. Indian?! WTF? STEREOTYPE!! And he's not American. Where do you see he's American? America wasn't even around!
2. This is what I was talking about earlier. They WANT that stereotpyical accent in there, which would just prove how ignorant people are and warped the images of Arabs is.
3. A-L-A-D-D-I-N. Learn this, please. It just makes me think you're even less intelligent when you want to argue about this movie, yet you can't even spell it.
Hourglass figures. Just look at Jasmine from Aladin. Look at her for about 30 seconds. Looka t her shape. It's not physically possible. Not only that but the cartoons for KIDS, damnit, are making them think that princesses are big-busted and tiny-waisted/slippered.
Thank-you, Captain Obvious! Welcome to the caracatured body types of Aladdin! To your left you have sultan, who is based off an egg and Iago, who is meant to be like a little clay pot. Her hourglass figure was intentional and an artistic pun off that--do your research. For more examples of this, check out Hercules where Meg's body is meant to be like a Greek pot when she puts her hands on her hips.
And can someone PLEASE tell me where Jasmine is big busted? I see this all the time and I really want to know where people are getting this from. Like, seriously. She's like what? A 'B' cup? *Maybe* a small 'C'? If that's big busted to you, do not meet me
And yes, her stomach is small. We are well aware of it. Get over it. She's a 15 year old princess living in the higher bracket of society of a mythical Arab country set hundreds of years ago. I know of VERY few 'fat' or 'thick' princesses from that part of the world.
P.S.--wtf is 'slippered'?
-Ugly sisters yadadada, yes I know it's in the original tale but Disney has major censoring/editing powers over innocent stories, as has been aforementionedly proved(o.o)
-Ummm... Not remaining true to the original tales XP
These two statements after each other are hysterical . "Yes I know it's in the original tale....but they're not being true to the original tale". Uuuuhh...oook? Honestly, I highly doubt anyone would want to see any of the fairy tales in their original forms. You *think* you want that and "omg purity!!11", but you reeeeally don't. You honest to God do not want to watch the real story of Pocahontas and I highly doubt you would watch an animated movie where the 8 year old marries the older John. You wouldn't want to take your child to see them and you know it.
And even when people give you the slightest glimpses into the original fairy tales, very few people take it in. I LOVED The Brothers Grimm movie they just came out with that had little references to a lot of the fairy tales and how they came up with certain things. Some were twisted a little, yes, but quite a few weren't and not too many people cared for it. My brothers were highly disturbed the entire time.
This person is highly amusing. They want to be a Disney hating feminist, yet don't have their facts right that they hate . Where is this at? |

One of these days I'm going to figure out Jasmine's height by comparing it to Aladdin's, take measurements of the model sheets of Jasmine, and figure out once and for all what Jasmine's measurements are so that I can prove that they're realistic. As far as boobs go, I think you're right, AG; I am between a B and a C myself (I know, TMI...) and that looks like the size Jasmine is. It's just the fact that her top is low cut and she's pretty obviously not wearing a bra. _________________ "If only I could believe you. Perhaps I can! I can't believe it! Whoever was making those comments was pretty darn well bitter to be making such remarks about Disney movies!!!
Jasmine has a fab figure! but she's a cartoon, she has been stylized for this purpose!!! Curvacious women do exist in this world, with hourglass figures, who ordinarily get no recognition because of stick thin models, but yes they are real, so why can't Jas be curvy and stunning?
Also, Aladdin being Indian??????? I am Indian! I am from India and I know he's not Indian!!!! I know the ARabian nights was actually tales from Three main countries, Arabia and Persia (i have been studying for my project! ) but that doesn't make him Indian!! coz he isn't!!!!
I can't believe it. Just when u think there isn't a enough fun sucking in this world, someone always comes up with more, albeit, on the internet about disney movies. _________________

EXACTLY! Could you imagine if D*sney stuck with the whole real very very original stories of the fairy tale movies they make?! What if in Snow White the huntsman really came back with the heart from the boar playing it off as Snow White's and the queen really ate it with salt?
And what about Sleeping Beauty? Worse than 8 year old Pocohontas, 7-10 year old SB dies is left in her abandoned kingdom, which is one day broken into by a man who finds her, and has sex with her...while she's DEAD! She has twins, wakes up, he comes back, they spend a week together, he returns to his wife, who finds out and orders to cook to kill the twins and bring the throats home and cook them, which is really uses baby lambs, and the man eats them later thinking his kids were dead. Wife tries to burn SB, who is saved by her 30 year old lover.
Yeee-ah...not very aimed towards audiences of all ages now is it? And the statment said about the ugly sisters is a bit confusing. What is being complaned about again??? _________________ -Gazelle

I see people walking around everyday with that tiny little shape. It's not abnormal and it doesn't mean they're anorexic. They in no way look out of proportion. Jasmine is not that tall or big in size herself. These are tiny people we are talking about

That they always make the sisters in Disney movies ugly. First off, how many Disney movies have sisters? *counts on hand* Cinderella, TLM, Peter Pan, Lilo and Stitch, and TENG? Is that it? Alright, so out of those, how many were "ugly" intentionally? One--Cinderella's. Why? Because to go back to her original statement of 'omg not true to the original tale'--THEY WERE. So where they are going with the "ugly sister" claim is beyond me.
I really don't think people are aware of the TRUE original forms of some of these stories. They want to bitch about purity and sticking true to the original, but have no idea what that really is. Even the 'other' tales of what were read to you compared to the Disney ones are still toned down. I had a book that said The Little Mermaid lost her ability to speak. Ok, I see that. It's in both the Disney and this book I read. But I read another book that said she actually had part of her tongue cut out, which caused her lost of speech and not wanting to speak because of how she'd sound. Can you see that in the TLM we have now? Would you WANT to see that? Didn't think so.

I don't see anything wrong with Jasmine's body. What's with these people? Can't they see natural beauty and accept it? Or is America to into 'plastic surgery' and conclude that no one can be born beautiful without any type of medical help?
And... Jasmine is not 'busty'. My friends, I know what busty is. I hang around with Gazmine! Mwa ha... sorry, had to point that out. I, myself, am pretty small. But I got a LOT of other things to make up for that loss.
Sure, it might be saddening that MANY companies do not stick with the actual stories. But hey, it's Hollywood, what are you gonna do? Like Timon says, "Poetic License" or something like that. Also, sometimes it is for the better to add your own twists into stories. Other than making them original, you can target a specific group of age.
I'll give an example. The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Sure, I love Victor Hugo's version as much as I love the Disney version. But, really, who'd let their children see such a tale? Most all characters die, except for Phoebus... he marries his first cousin. Ha.
And by the accents thing. Stereotypical. I'm Mexican, you don't see me (actually, none of you guys see me... except for Gaz. XD) going around with a thick accent and a sombrero. I have an accent, but only a TRAINED ear can hear it. Ha ha.
AND... what about Lumiere? He had an accent.
And so did the Genie... but I don't think he counts. _________________ You know you want to Legendary Genie Embrace me... |

...I think everyone who countered those statements said all that's need to be said, so I'll sit here in my 'how many inaccuracies were in that thing?'/'why devote so much time and energy to something you hate so much, that obviously makes you miserable and angry?' stunned silence.
