It has the most awesome villain song ever. I don't know about most awesome villain ever. He is kind of just the 1920s Black Jafar. But his song is more awesome than Poor Unfortunate Souls and Hellfire put together.
And actually, I really like Tiana too. Any other princess who had to work was put in the situation by the villain and just waiting for her dreams; Tiana was actually working to accomplish something. She does talk a lot about it, but it's better than sitting around singing about how someday her prince will come. She's the first Disney princess I've really liked. (I like Mulan, but I refuse to call Mulan a princess; her family are well-off townsfolk and her husband is a general. She comes from no long lines of royalty. And I like Jasmine, but not as much as Tiana.) |

I saw it 3 times
Saluk: I also hated Tiana's delivery when she was talking to Faciler! Oh, my God! It feels good to know I'm not the only one! It's sooo cheesy. "My daddy never lost sight of what was really important! And NEITHER! WILL! I!" *points to the sky* |

I've seen the movie six times and, as one could infer, I love it.
My favorite character has to be Naveen. I'm so thrilled that I finally have a real answer to the question "Who is your favorite Disney Prince?" other than "uh...I guess Aladdin?"
Friends and I enjoy quoting Naveen, esp. the line "... did you get my joke? Because your head, it is in a tuba." We tend to paraphrase that line and use whatever nouns are appropriate.
My other favorite characters are Louis, Ray, Mama Odie ("JUJU!!!!!!!"), and Charlotte.
I too wish for more backstory for Faciler/more of Naveen's adventures as a human, but I'm ok with what is there. I really like all of the characters. I don't see Tiana as a one-dimmensional character. Really, really focused, but that's the point of her journey. I think part of Mama Odie's lesson to her is not only look for the relationships that are important, but to loosen up some. I quite enjoy the flamingos and the other background animals booing and moaning after Tiana misses the point of "Dig a Little Deeper."
There's one (well two, but they're the same) bit in the movie that makes me cringe. It's the whole "HE HAD LOVE!!!" exclaimation, from both Tiana and Eudora. The sentiment works for me (I actually quite love it), but the way it's stated does not. It sounds so preachy and melodramatic and ugh.
Looking forward to my next viewing. |

But Belle was more than just a bookworm. She spoke her mind and longed for adventure and was willing to do anything for those she loved. I guess you could say the same for Tiana, though.
I'm looking forward to "meeting" Rapunzel later this year. |

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's like Disney was very aware they were making a future princess and wanted to carefully make her as awesome as possible. But then again, maybe we're just too old to enjoy a new princess. Little girls seem to really like Tiana and will probably be really fond of her when they're older. When BaTB first came out, adults and critics said stuff like, "It's obvious Disney tried to make it more girl power by making Belle know how to read. That's nice but...is that all? Boring." But now people our age adore Belle! |

I agree with AG on pretty much everything with Tiana. I liked her, but I did feel she was portrayed as not much more than a workaholic. She clearly did have a sense of humor and brass though, which I respected.
The humor part came out best in the scene with the frog-hunters.
"And we talk too!"
to which Naveen is forced to deliver one of my favorite lines, "Okay, okay. I admit you are not a complete stick... deep in the mud." |

He seems to have a tiny cult going already
I'm still trying to comprehend what happened with Ray
Yeah, I suppose. I guess I just had a lot of expectations going in thinking she'd be really fun, but I swear 90% of her dialouge consists of the words "daddy" and "restaurant" and the phrases "work hard" and "ALMOST THERE" (which I'm going to snap if I hear Disney fans say one more time in response to almost reaching a goal ). I felt like I was watching a Disney Princess product at times because she just...kept repeating those things. I got she was a workaholic and really determined without them beating that over my head in her lines AND in songs. She was a little more spelled out than I'm use to, I think. It comes off like she's the product of making sure she stays as mutually inoffensive as possible, to be honest. |

I love Faciler and think he will go down in history as one of Disney's most awesome villains
I adore the heck out of Ray!
I kinda felt the same way about Tiana as AG, at first. I thought she was boring but maybe I only have room in my heart for Jasmine. When I look back, Tiana isn't really boring at all. It's just that all the other more interesting characters took her shine. Also, Tiana doesn't have any angst and we are products of the angsty Disney renaissance girls. She's a very positive character, which is just as good.
Disney girls are a product of their time. Ariel was a perfect response to the way girls were in the 80s. Jasmine was perfect for the 90s. But in these recession times, and with the younger generation being a bit different (coddled, almost) an unbeatable and positive spirit like Tiana's might be just what little girls need these days. |

Naveen and Charlotte ended up being my favorites from the film as both were hilarious . I think everyone could have used a little more backstory, though, especially Facilier. He's awesome, but I found myself having a lot of questions after the movie was over.
I've also come to realize I like the idea of Tiana more than her actual character. Don't get me wrong, I do like her, it's just I found her a little one-dimensional at times which caused the rest of the cast to overpower her. Outside of the actual movie, I love her. Isn't that weird? |

Yeah, I was surprised nobody was talking about it either! I really liked it a lot! I really liked Naveen too. He's one to add to my favorite heroes. My best friend ogled over the cool villain and wished he had more screen time.
I liked the supporting characters too. Louis was fun, and the Ray was smart and lovable. It took me a little bit to figure how to feel about Charlotte, but (especially at the end) I really liked her.
I really liked the plot and the creative liberties they took with it!
And I cried too. |
