Thanks for the heads up and the review, Chris!
I'm at uni right now so I'm gonna get my brother to record it. _________________

Outstanding Music - Alan Menken
Outstanding Lyrics - Howard Ashman, Tim Rice & Chad Beguelin
Outstanding Book of a Musical - Chad Beguelin
Think the Tony Award nominations are due next week so fingers crossed!
The Drama League nom for JMI is incredible, it's their only acting category, you can only win once in your career and it's very competitive (he's up against Broadway and West End stars like Idina Menzel and Ramin Karimloo and household names such as Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart and Denzel Washington).
So happy to see the show consistently being nominated for Best Musical and really happy to see the Drama Desk awards give some recognition to Adam Jacobs. JMI is as fabulous as everyone says and gives an incredible stand out performance but Adam and Courtney are still central to the show so it's nice to see him getting a nomination. And I'm so overjoyed to see Howard Ashman's name in the nominations, it's such a fitting tribute to his legacy. |

That's great!
Here are the Tony nominations: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/tony-awards-2014-list-of-nominees/
Aladdin got a nod for Best Musical which is kind of huge because The Lion King was the last Disney musical to get a nomination!
Also book, score, and choreography.
And JMI got a nomination too!
Fingers-crossed! _________________

Different, but trying to remember that different =/= bad. I really liked the second half of "A Whole New World." For the first half, I'll have to see it with the staging.
"Friend Like Me" works because of who is performing it
"High Adventure" - great to hear this sung by a cast with real instruments
"A Million Miles Away." An okay song! But I'm not a huge fan of contemporary musical music. That boring set part kills me every time.
When I heard the title, "A Million Miles Away," I was like, "OoOoOoOo, maybe it's a song they sing when they're separated by Jafar's temporary victory." Although that isn't what it ended up being, I couldn't help but imagine the emotional potential a song at that time could carry! (what with Aladdin being at the ends of the earth while his love is under the control of a maniacal sorcerer, and Jasmine a slave believing her loved one is dead!)

I'm so late to the party of being in love with this show; I guess I didn't want to commit until it was real and stuff. I'd sell a couple organs to be able to see the show live. I've seen video of its run in Toronto and loved it, plus the soundtrack's pretty great. All I need now is to be able to afford a trip to New York City to see it and I'll be golden. There's very, very far-fetched talk of my Mother and I finding a way to go after she has her knee replacement in July, maybe Octoberish, but at this point, it sounds too good to hope for.
Wow, this post is pointless. Don't even care! _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

That definitely threw me off when I first listed to it. I'm still not adjusted to it yet. To be honest, I'm glad this show has come out now rather than like 10 years ago when I was a super fussy immature fangirl and would have probably rejected it immediately. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

Third post in a row, baby. Here we go.
I've got a question for those of you who visited NYC to see the show: where did you stay when you saw it? There's a plan forming for me to be able to see it, but my Mother and I have no idea where to stay that might be somewhat affordable. I've never been, and she hasn't been for 40 years and we're confused. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

We stayed at The New Yorker which is an 8 block walk from the theatre, it was pretty reasonably priced and a good size for NYC (all rooms are small)
Edit - I am so far behind posting updates here! I promise sometime soon I'll copy over all the blog links as there's been plenty of things going on! |

Anyone watching the Tonys? According to Tumblr, JMI stole the show! Which doesn't surprise me I'm on a business trip so I probably won't get to see until someone uploads/Friday when I can use my DVD. _________________

I may have had a mini heart attack at James winning. I had read that he was the favorite, but I'm a long-time Aladdin fan, I know the disrespect that manages to fall on this fandom. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

I'm so happy for him! I know what you mean--I had my fingers crossed the whole time. Very well-deserved! _________________

Over the moon right now! He's dreamed of being Genie since he was 17, he's dreamed of being on the Tonys since he was 17 and now he's won performed on the Tonys as Genie and won a Tony for it! Talk about dreams come true![/img] |
