I literally just bought this ten minutes ago, so I'm going to go dissappear for an hour or so now.

What does it say about me that the more I heard people complain about this the more I wanted to see it? Laughing

Re-posting my mini-review from the other thread...

Jasmine: I can speak several languages! I can name every one of the Forty Thieves!

Oh, really, Jasmine? Really? Can we *pretend* that the writer knew about KOT canon, if only for a second?

And random Captain= not Rasoul? Unless we can say he's off camera and that random guy is just some poor sap forced onto Sahara, yeah, that's a gaff.

Random family members, bathing scenes, craptastic songs, weird Iago/Abu dynamics (IMO)... this has to be set *really* close to ROJ for me to buy any of this nonsense. There's no Aladdin or Genie and no reference to marriage, so it's hard to say where it was meant to happen.

It could have been worse, honestly, but it was by no means good.

For the first time I'm happy I can't buy it. Or else it would turn my brain upside down...

I wish they'd at least made some mention of where Al and Genie were instead of pretending they didn't exist. I understand *why* they were left out, but still...

I'm kind of curious, what was it about Iago and Abu that seemed off to you? Too nice to each other?

You can fit pretty much whatever theory you want into the first year of the series; there were only 16 episodes in that time, so even if you count RoJ and the first movie that's only one episode-worthy event every three weeks or so. Whereas the end of the series they were averaging over one episode per week. (Yes, I did the math last night. I'm a geek like that. Laughing )

That's part of it. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Iago wasn't involved with the fig stealing at all; that he was an innocent bystander to Abu's activity. He didn't even beat Abu up about it, really. His snark was mixed with the niceness that felt so un-Iago.

Also, Iago completely misunderstanding Abu seemed off to me. He just went kinda brain-dead during that whole trial sequence... I suppose that could all make sense if it took place real close to ROJ (it has to, I suppose. I keep saying that though. Laughing) and they hadn't figured each other out yet...

Okay, so I'm realizing that the problem is *Iago* being off, but I see most of that during the scenes with Abu. Not to say that stuff in the trial isn't funny-- some of it cracked me up the second time I watched it-- but it seemed... incorrect.

And coincidentally, that's the only part I really felt where "Jasmine" came out when she was questioning Abu and telling Iago to shut up for a second. You know, the one we know and not this Disney Princess!Jasmine verison we're being fed Laughing

Depends on if you're one of those people who needs all the canon and extra fandom things for your collection Laughing

I haven't watched it since the day I bought it, but it's nice knowing it's there if I ever need it. I think you can get away with just renting it so you can say "Yeah, I've seen it". If you like it enough and don't think you'll burn your ears out, you can buy it.

If you can I would say rent it before you buy, because I think it depends a lot on what you're expecting. I was expecting an animated version of those Disney Princess storybooks and that's basically what I got, and, like AG, I am a completist. Laughing

Haven't seen this yet myself, but the more reviews I read the more I'm curious. I've never really looked into the Disney Princess series much (not my thing XD) For some reason it's always made me get the feeling of the Disney girls getting turned into Barbies; ala like all those Barbie movies they keep coming out with. No offense to anyone who enjoys them, but it's just not my thing. Lol.
The fact that Iago's in it might edge me on the rent it sometime though. Although I'm also curious about the "OOC ness" mentioned...as for the time setting, well I can't give my full opinion until I've seen it for myself. I do think there would've been somewhat of an awkward period for the main "good guys" and Iago immediately following RoJ. I was always curious about that (although I don't think this holds any answers for me XD).
Also why no Aladdin or Genie, exactly? If Iago and Abu are there...o.O Alright. I'll just hafta rent this someday and find out. XD

I could do a whole essay on the Disney Princess line. Great concept, poorly executed. They are turning into superficial, tea guzzling airheads Sad

Iago, I'd say out of everyone in the story, was the closest to sounding like himself. At first he seemed a bit off, but got better as he became the voice of negativity as usual Laughing

And APPARENTLY Aladdin and Genie were "away" for a few days.....k.

That's exactly what I feared would happen. In one of the reviews it mentions how Playhouse Disney seems to be gaining more and more control; I agree. The majority of toons coming out these days seem as if they're geared towards very young children. It's been a while since I've seen any good series along the lines of the Aladdin tv show or Talespin, that could appeal to all ages (I still watch 'em and I'm 22. Razz).

Well thank god Iago didn't giggle and play tea party with Jasmine, at least. XD

Take a look at the Amazon reviews for those Princess DVDs that have TLM and Aladdin episodes on them sometime, the ones written by the parents of 3 and 4 year olds: they're angry that they aren't getting movie-quality animation, they think the stories are either too dark and scary or too boring, and where are the songs? Razz If that's the kind of feedback Disney's getting, no wonder this is what they're coming out with. If you want to sell DVDs, market to parents who want to use their TV as a babysitter.
