I have a question about characterizations.
Here is a sample of the next chapter.

“No!” Dhandi snapped. The mage light burned furiously. “I don’t want to go! That place gave me the creeps. You can’t make me-”

“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. It’s just a suggestion.”
“I’m gonna talk to Eden about this,” Dhandi stood up. “She might know something about this.”
“Can I meet Eden? " Amir asked.
“Maybe,” Dhandi stretched her arms out. She felt rather sore and tired. “Though it might be kinda hard, considering you only exist in my head.”
“I’ll think of something. In the meantime, want to learn something else?” |
Am I fairly faithful to Dhandi's character in the series?

I think the entire "it gives me the creeps" line doesn't work for Dhandi. Remember in her intro episode how she playfully lies to Abis Mal and Haroud about Eden's bottle. She is nonchalent about it until Haroud threatens her.
The scene might work better if she just decided to go directly to Eden for help.
That's what I would have her do anyway.

You're welcome. I only just rewatched the episodes myself after years of being out of the Aladdin fandom.
A method I found helpful for writing fanfic is to study the characters and universe in detail before ever writing a word of the story. That way you can think as the characters do and allow that to help shape your story. It's time consuming, but I think the end results is worth it.

I do that obsessively. I wrote a total of 20 pages on Minos/Fatima/Aziz (as indiviudal over-analysing provides, coupled with some psychological books).. of course, I do more overanalysing that I do writing...

Yay! I'm not alone in my writing methods! Most fan writers I've dealt with tell me that they just sit down and write. (Nobody from this fandom, so please no one be insulted.) How refreshing to find out that someone does some thinking before writing! For example, I have a great Star Wars fanfic idea (I've just been hit with the reobsession bug bad ) but I can't write it until after Episode III comes out! There's too much missing information for me to write it now. And I hate to write without being accurate. I'm strange that way!

It's a bit more difficult to write about a minor character, especially when there isn't as much info/fan fics about them as there would be a more popular character. I'm running the risk of just making up stuff about them.

That's ok, it's fun giving characters an extra feature that you think is there. *Hugs Pimp Ali*
Just don't make it something waaaaaaaaaaay off on a tangent. Like having Dhandi turn into a mermaid who longs to be Queen of Pride Rock, but is too busy being entranced by a singing French candlestick. Whoa, talk about a trippy fanfic. |
