Once Genie became free, he lost some of his powers. He can't be free AND have unlimited powers for some reason. Rule of the Genie, I guess. Jafar was still bound to his lamp, so his powers were unlimited. :D As for getting them back in KOT, I try to ignore the fact that he has all of them back because Robin is back playing him and just say that after two instances in the series (The Genie Embrace from Book of Khartoum and having his magic mixed and restored with 100 sorcerer's magic in Beast or Famine) somehow slowly gave him back some of this power. I doubt if he is completely back to normal, but it's not like KOT showed anything where his powers would limit him. All he really did was change into things and he's always been able to do that. It's just when it comes to transportation and transformation of others that it gets tricky. Yeah..BIG Genie fan talking
He obviously hasn't been one before or else he would know what it feels like.
Oh, that's true! I forgot about that. I knew there was some reason from that episode that disproved that...
I really need to watch Treasure of the Lost Lamp again; I think they stole a lot of it from the old version of the Aladdin script.

Yep, there's an creation story in Islam that explains that genies, or djinn if we're going on historical accuracy , were made of fire, angels light and human mud.

Wierd... the word "genie" is supposed to hail from the Latin word "genius," meaning "guardian spirit." The word "djinni" traces back to the Arabic word "janna," meaning "to cover." Yet they're both pronounced pretty much the same. I wonder if the Romans picked up "djinni" and decided it was pretty close to "genius?"
I remember reading somewhere that some stories had it that someone could become a genie as punishment after living a life of depravity.
Psst - funniest story (that I've read so far) in the Thousand and One Nights that involves genies -
Noureddin Ali of Cairo and his Son Bedreddin Hassan
. Two of them. Who get into an argument over which human they'd just seen was the better-looking.

When you think about it, with the unpredictablity of Genie and his ilk, it makes sense.

Well, in mythology, again, genies were born or created that way. I never heard of anyone being turned into a genie in anything other than Disney or I Dream of Jeannie.
In the episode "Power to the Parrot" Genie gives all his power to Iago, but he is still blue but he has to stay in the same shape. So, definitely not human when he lost all his power.

So does that mean that there use to be a magical land of Genies?
It's not that I'm an expert or anything but a lot of other shows has the Genie as a Human and then became trapped in the Lamp. There was an episode of 'Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers' where if the Genie was released then the person (Or in this case chipmunk) who released him would be the new Genie. The original Genie was Human and went back to human form.

Well what else would he be before he was a Genie? A Camel?

He's still immortal. And how do you know he started off as a human?

Now if we are going to be picky, then shouldn't the Genie lose ALL of his powers when he was wished free? And shouldn't he turn back into a Human?
But the way I see it is that as a Slave of a Lamp, he can grant people power or anything they want. No illusion. But once he is free he can only do stupid things. He's more like a Wizard than a Genie

Of course
I wish traditional genie mythology was a class
But I've never really thought about if you could ask Genie when you'd die, and if he could in fact tell you besides that pebble poisoning skit in "Egg-stra Protection"

Sorry, could not resist.
Oh, I'd be disappointed if someone didn't take that obvious setup.

I was doing research one night on genies and I found the following:
Genies do not know everything. They know what Allahu ta'ala makes them know or what they see. If the genie discloses what it has learned through either way, there is nothing wrong with saying that the genie has let you know.
At one place it [The book on genies] says, "It is permissible to ask genies about past things. It is not permissible to ask them about the things that will happen in the future. They know past things by seeing and hearing them.
so...I guess they could tell you when you'd die, but then you start messing with fate and asking yourself the question "Do you really want to know?" Be careful what you wish for
Yeah... 'course, genies in traditional mythology don't live forever like the ones in Aladdin do. And Genie obviously has *some* knowledge of the future, or he couldn't impersonate people who haven't been born.
